Illustration Workshop

Cityscape by Nicolette CapuanoFranz Spohn has illustrated several children’s books and numerous book covers for Bantam, Doubleday, Dell, written copyrighted study-guide material for Simon & Shuster and has created product characters and designs for children’s museums and nationally known companies. In this workshop, Franz will share his professional experience in discussing and demonstrating stages of developing an illustration from initial sketch to finished piece. Depending on the length of the workshop, students will have an opportunity to participate actively in developing a workshop assignment in companion to the material covered.

Topics to be covered in a two hour workshop will include:

Ideation with the help of pencil and tracing paper – a valuable tool for exploring a variety of possibilities in the initial steps of an illustration assignment.
Appropriate degree of finish and control of an illustration in relation to context – development of personal styles and energy.
